I work for a company that installs audio visual equipment in Schools and Hospitals. In most cases to date this equipment is being used for the important but focused uses of communicating information to students and medical staff in a training setting. Occasionally the equipment is used to communicate messages to students and patients in an informative manner in the campuses concerned. However as this research indicates, there is a clear case for using music in an context that improves the wellbeing of patients and similar studies suggest that students learn more effectively in settings where certain types of music are provided in the learning environment. It seems as though our NHS and education sector are missing a trick! I would be interested to find out if any organisations exist in either education or healthcare to promote the widespread use of music in such settings? There is no reason why such provision could not include benefits for students and patients who are reliant on hearing aids, through the use of Assistive Listening Devices.
