Peter Stocker (1953-2015)

untitled (264)The very sad news that Peter Stocker has died at the age of 62 following treatment for Cancer is sad news for those of us who used to walk past the Workshop Pottery at the bottom of Trafalgar Street in Brighton. His shop was a fixture for as many years as I can recall and according to some reports for nearly 30 years until he and Sally decided to move to Aylesbury in 2009 taking their business with them. It was a very sad day for the North Laines. Because of the nature of the business Peter was a constant presence in his shop, only going missing when there was a meeting to attend to improve the lot of City College, St Bartholomews School or the North Laines traders. Whenever I popped in, either with a particular reason or just because I was passing, Peter always had something positive to say and always added value to the issues we discussed. I cannot ever remember him being unwilling to assist in some way in a plan. According to his facebook page, Peter was well enough this Summer to walk with their daughter to see her get married and there are some lovely photos of Peter with Sally and the rest of his family in the last few months of his illness.

His funeral will be held next week in Milton Keynes, and his family have also arranged a drop-in celebration of his life at Brighton Marina in the Master Mariner on 20th November between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Pete’s wife Sally explained: “We are planning an event to mark Pete’s death and celebrate his life with our many southern friends in the place we spent many happy years where we met, married had a business and brought up our children”.

Rest in Peace Peter, a really great bloke.
