The By-Election in Brecon and Radnorshire today seems like a good opportunity to try to change the way in which our politics works. There are far too many challenges facing candidates who are Independent or representatives of parties outside of the two largest parties which in Wales and England are Labour or Conservative. Add to this that 10% of the electorate membership of the constituency has called for Chris Davies to be rejected and that the Liberal Democrats were second largest party in Brecon in 2017 and that in itself is sufficient reason to vote for Jane. However there is a much bigger reason and that is why I would argue that Jane should be voted for. The decision by both Plaid Cymru and the Green Party not to stand at this location and to ask their supporters to back the Liberal Democrats makes a very strong case.
As someone who has voted Labour for a large part of my life, I might wonder if Labour could come out with a credible proposal for the EU and also be willing in constituencies like this to support the Lib Dems, Green and Plaid Cymru. However their party has changed very significantly from its origins when it sought to focus on constituencies where it could hope to win.
