The meeting that took place at the beginning of last week between the Department for BEIS represented by Andrea Leadsom and Kelly Tolhurst and a number of business network agencies has indicated that our Government is not willing to listen to businesses that have different opinions to them over such important issues as Brexit. Given the failings of the Government over the last 40 months to deliver a credible Brexit deal, despite the many promises made during the referendum campaign it seems rather disturbing that when two of the networks (CBI and Make UK) did not support the current proposals from Boris Johnson that Tolhurst and Leadsom explained to them. It appears that FSB, Chamber of Commerce and the IOD were less vocal, but the fact is that the Government has been inadequate when it comes to consulting with businesses, whether this is through the national agencies or through local MPs. Of course the Businesses that fund the Tory Party, just like the Trade Unions that fund the Labour Party get heard very clearly, but the rest of the business sector and the rest of the work forces across out nation get ignored whenever their views are at odds with the views of the Government of the day. This needs to end as a matter of some urgency!
