The largest annual increase in Police Officer numbers since 2003

This is the latest claim by our Home Secretary which appears in a magazine called the Police Oracle and of course she is right. The last time there was a major increase in Police Officer numbers was when the Labour Party in the middle of their second Governance made a major investment in Policing which shocked some people who thought that the Labour Party was not a big fan of Police Forces. So since that time there has not been any big increases in numbers of Police Officers. Indeed instead of any increases there have been, ever since the Conservative Party replaced the Labour Party as the main Political Part, a massive number of reductions in Police Officer numbers. So if Priti Patel was being a bit more credible, given the biggest cuts in Police Numbers that have ever taken place, happened when her Party came into power in 2010 she would admit that the increase of 9,327 represents less than half of the cuts in Police Officers over that time. Indeed given that over that 10 years there have also been a large number of Police Officers retiring, that the number of officers recruited this year is much less than a quarter of the gap that her Home Secretary predecessors have created.
