It is time to achieve some form of cross party involvement

Living in a location like Sussex we currently have 16 Constituencies. Of these 16 locations at one time all 16 were Conservative dominated. Today there are three constituencies that are not Conservative controlled. In Brighton and Hove we have 3 constituencies. One (Hove) is Labour, one (Pavilion Brighton) is Green and a third one (Kemptown Brighton) is currently Labour because when Lloyd Russell-Moyle first stood for Labour in that constituency, the Green Party stepped down from it as a campaigning location. However Hastings which was Labour for several years and has a Labour Council, is currently Conservative. Crawley which was Labour for several years has a strong Labour Council but Henry Smith is the current MP. Eastbourne which was a Liberal Democratic constituency and is a Liberal Democratic Council is currently Conservative. Lewes is also a non Conservative Council but it is currently a Conservative constituency. If we could work together with people from different parties and return those four locations to Labour, Liberal Democratic or Green constituencies, then we would have 9 Conservative Constituencies and 7 non Conservative Constituencies. We could then work to break it down to 8 vs 8. The challenge is to persuade political groups to work together in a constructive way and then perhaps eventually we could achieve proportional representation.

As it happens I had a very constructive conversation with a group of people today. Some are Labour Party members, Some are Green Party members and several including me are not party members and do not want to join a party but do want to be able to work with people from a range of parties. Let us hope that agencies such as Compass will bring together the Greens, the Labour and the Liberal Democratics and see what we can do to change our society for the much better. Perhaps the 8th Constituency could become an Independent MP. That would really improve matters.
