The Afghanistan crisis is currently demonstrating a great deal of individual voices from within our nation that have a similar amount of influence to all of the others. The failure from within our Government and the lack of connection to the USA and European leaders is showing that not only can we not get a very clear call from within the nation but that our nations approach is not going to be very consistent with other nations either. This is very different to what would have been the case if this had taken place 6 or more years ago. So we now need to to hear some voices that are credible and that can become part of the nations leadership over the next 3 years and potentially beyond that stage. The calls from people like Caroline Nokes and Tobias Ellwood here in the Independent along with Tom Tugendhat in his comments on the USA connection sound much more credible than the voices from the Government at a formal level. However they are not the Government as things stand currently. The Opposition is also some distance from where we need it to be currently. Equally the wider community leaders such as people involved in the Voluntary Sector, Universities, in Economics and in Religious groups are all capable of being heard but they do represent a myriad of voices and it will take a huge amount of effort for those voices to begin to resonate over this theme. However that may be more of a prospect than the idea of Boris Johnson and Priti Patel along with Dominic Raab and Rishi Sunak to sound as though they are working together and can make any credible views, given how rejective they have been of asylum seekers in the last few years and how much they are disconnected with most other nations.
