Will the next PM ensure Independent PCCs get elected?

It is always very inspiring when we see documents from our family that shows how our relatives have achieved a great deal and met and indeed involved with significant people. This morning my Mum showed me a document that is entitled Passing Out Parade Programme which is based on the August 2019 publication of a number of Police student officers from the Gloucestershire Constabulary. My Nephew is Chris Redding and along with his image and statement inside the document there is also a focus on the Chief Constable of the Gloucestershire Constabulary, Rod Hansen and a man I met in 2012 when we were both seeking to become Police Crime Commissioners. Sadly, I was not successful in Sussex but Martin Surl was very successful in 2012 and indeed as it states “in May 2016 with a much-increased majority.” Tragically in 2021 he was unsuccessful and indeed there are now no Independent PCCs which is deeply disturbing given that the Prime Minister who created the PCC role stated very clearly in 2010 that he wanted PCCs to be separate from party politics. Given that now all PCCs are political members perhaps the new Prime Minister who is being determined on Friday night will call for the honest call to be reinstated at the next PCC election.
