Early last week a very significant Kent MP, Tracey Crouch who is the MP for Chatham and Aylesford set out a campaign using the Early Day Motions process. She is someone who understands the value of the EDMs even though she has only been an MP since 2010 when the Conservative Party has been in charge of our Nation. I must be honest that she initially removed a Labour MP who is Jonathan Shaw who is a person I have met on several occasions and he was a very significant MP for Chatham and Aylesford. However the use of EDMs by Tracey is very significant in our region, she has written 25 before she wrote this one and she has signed 229 other EDMs which is clearly in opposition to a number of other Conservative MPs. Sadly they include Liz Truss who has refused to write or sign any EDMs even for the period when she first became and MP. I wrote about the challenge for EDMs a few days ago which can be seen here. This EDM which Tracey wrote on 7th September is EDM 366 and it is very significant. So far there have been only 10 other MPs who have signed it. The text can be seen below. The othet people who have endorsed it are as follows:
Jo Gideon – Conservative Stoke on Trent (she has never signed an EDM before this item)
Andrea Leadsom – Conservative South Northamptonshire (she sought to become the PM in 2019)
Jim Shannon – DUP Strangford
Chris Stephens – SNP Glasgow South West
Jonathan Edwards – Independent Camarthen
Mike Penning – Conservative Hemel Hempstead
John McDonnell – Labour Hayes
Caroline Lucas – Green Brighton Pavilion (she is my MP)
Kirsten Oswald – SNP East Renfrewshire
Rachael Maskell – Labour York Central
We clearly need many more MPs to sign this EDM, so let us hope that we can persuade them to do so. Here is the EDM content.
