Stephen Cottrell speaks to the Labour Conference event

A number of years ago when Tony Blair was the Prime Minister and when Labour came to Brighton for their Conference the Sunday Morning Service took place in St Peter’s Church. The person who did the preach at the event was John Sentamu who was the Archbishop of York. I had the privilege as the Coordinator of Churches Together in Sussex to pray for the Prime Minister and his wife and I met them prior to the service. This year the Labour Party has had its Conference in Liverpool and the person who was invited to preach the Labour Party was the current Archbishop of York. Although I was not in Liverpool I do know Stephen Cottrell as I have met him in the past when he was a Bishop in the South. I am really delighted that he has done the preach. He has kindly provided the preach from his website which is available here. At the beginning of the text he has presented it as

Each year Christians on the Left host a church service at the beginning of the Labour Party Conference. This year Archbishop Stephen was invited to preach at St James in the City, Liverpool.  His sermon follows in full…

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called… take hold of the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6. 12 & 19)
