Let us replace FPTP with #ProportionalRepresentation

As Doug Cowan at Electoral Reform Society wrote a few days ago on this piece in their website “As Liz Truss prepares to leave Downing Street, it’s clear where stability lies in the UK. Far from providing ‘Strong and Stable Government’, Britain’s First Past the Post political system has given us three prime ministers in less than three months. Yet while Westminster stumbles from crisis to crisis, proportional representation in Scotland and Wales has delivered stable governments for over 20 years.” So the Conservative Party have selected their third Prime Minister this year and for the first time they determined that the MPs would select the person without involving the Party members. It is very disturbing how things have happened in the last few months. I hope that in due course the Labour Party and the Liberal Democratic Party will ensure that their documents for the next General Election will involve Proportional Representation. If anyone would agree with that perhaps they could sign these petitions https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/619684 which has gone past 1,000 signatures in the last few days.

Hold a referendum on changing the voting system to proportional representation

Hold a referendum on implementing proportional representation for General Elections. The current First Past The Post system is no longer fit for purpose, governments should be more accountable. A more balanced electoral system is needed to restore the integrity and accountability of Parliament.

Governments have run this country on party lines and have failed to uphold standards in public life. Major parties are able to use technology, the media and the current First Past The Post system to retain power and quash alternative opposition. The electorate needs Members in Parliament that represent them and their needs and wishes, to restore integrity and accountability. The only way to achieve this is a proportional representation electoral system.

There is also this petition https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/619781 which is getting close to 900,000 signatures

Call an immediate general election to end the chaos of the current government

Call an immediate general election so that the people can decide who should lead us through the unprecedented crises threatening the UK.

The chaos engulfing the UK government is unprecedented. Over 40 ministers resigned leaving departments without leadership during cost of living, energy and climate crises. War rages in Ukraine; the Northern Ireland Protocol has further damaged our relationship with Europe; recession looms; the UK itself may cease to exist as Scotland seeks independence. This is the greatest set of challenges we have seen in our lifetimes. Let the people decide who leads us through this turmoil.
