Nevis Ensemble in St Clements Church, Isle of Harris

As I wrote yesterday, we visited the Isles of Harris and Lewis in 2014 and 2019. When we visited them on the second time we discovered that the Nevis Ensemble were visiting at St Clements Church. St Clements Church is about a mile away from a village called Leverburgh which includes a Port and it is also the second largest village in the Isle of Harris. It is a very fascinating setting as Leverburgh was originally called Obbe but in the 1920’s Lord Leverhulme funded the construction of roads, piers and houses in Lewis and Harris and he was named for the village where he also set up a business. His other well known location was Port Sunlight near where one of my residents lived in the Wirral. So when we visited the Isle of Harris in 2019 and discovered about the Leverburgh history we were very interested and we then also visited St Clements Church and then discovered that the Nevis Ensemble were planning to attend and so we visited their event. It was a lovely experience and they are very significant. The photo at the top of these two images was one I took during their event. The image below comes from the Nevis Ensemble website. They visited Harris via Leverburgh having attended another Island before they came to Harris and they travel around the Islands of Scotland as part of their regular activities.
