It sad to read that Daniel Ibekwe has passed away

Earlier this week one of my friends Judy Richards who we were at the Polytechnic many years ago informed me that they had received a message from Abi Akinyemi who announced that Daniel Ibekwe has passed away. Another of my friends, Umit Ozturk also informed his death and he explained that Daniel was “A leading figure in B&H Racial Harassment Forum for many years”. I had the privilege to work alongside with Daniel about 15 years ago when we were both involved in the Independent Advisory Group for Sussex Police. Indeed Umit and I are still involved in the IAG. Daniel was also very proud to propose me for my campaign to become the Independent Police and Crime Commissioner in Sussex back in 2012 although sadly I was not successful but here was his promotion. I also have another friend Nick Tapp who now lives in Spain and he mentioned that “How sad. I remember Daniel fondly.” on his response on Facebook. I wish that people like us can send our love to Daniel now that he has died.

His Funeral is taking place today (Friday 12th May) at 1pm at Hove Cemetery for his family and I’ve just been informed that the Cemetery is a private family farewell. The Wake at BMECP is open to other people at the same time.
