Following on from the election that few knew about and even less cared about, the election for Police and Crime Commissioners on 15th November we now have a review of the same elections that the Government appears to be keeping almost as quiet.
Of course the PCC elections were not a secret, it’s just that the Government who invented the concept and agreed to spend some £75M of our money on the organisation of these elections, then lost the political will to publicise the event in a meaningful way which included being unwilling to fund a free posting of candidates details to our homes.
According to Gary Streeter, MP for South West Devon and a member of the Speakers Committee on the Electoral Commission, the review of the election is now underway and this review is equally in the public domain. However hiding it away in the not so well-known Electoral Commission Committee is not going to achieve the same market share as X Factor or Strictly Come Dancing. Equally if Mr Streeter is going to promote this he might have ensured that the electoral commission had prepared something on their website or knew that he was announcing the process. However they are very nice people and after I had explained what he had said, I can let you know how to get your comments recorded. If you are interested in having your views heard please either:
Write to the London Offices of the Commission: The Electoral Commission

Or contact Katherine Dunn kdunn@electoralcommission.org.uk or Tel: 020 7271 0600 and she will pass on your comments.
