Dave the forgetful PM?

untitled (6)Although I have concluded that for me no Political Party has all of the answers, and that all of them have some of the answers, I confess that the party I most frequently disagree with is the one led by David Cameron and his chums George, Grant, Eric, Michael and of course Boris. If it wasn’t so serious the phrase ‘compassionate conservatism’ when applied to their disastrous attempt at Government would be worthy of a few chuckles. Despite this I agree with the party on the retention of the UK as a whole and support much of his speech yesterday at the Velodrome. However on the subject of Olympic venues Dave, now would be a good moment to return the £425M that Labour ‘borrowed’ from the Big Lottery set aside for good causes. You were opposed to this raid on money for charities when Tessa and Tony proposed it, and you demanded that it must be returned after the Olympics. Now nearly 2 years later it is time to do the ‘honourable’ thing and repay this debt to the very people who create the Big Society that you used to be so proud of.

Yesterday morning Dave pointed out that he and indeed most of the UK have no vote on the referendum over Scottish Independence and I am pleased that at last, our views are being considered, albeit superficially in a debate that has an enormous implication for us as residents and taxpayers. However Dave is being incredibly optimistic in assuming that his words directed through us to our friends and relatives in Scotland will really change their minds on this issue. That is not because my Scottish friends and relatives are disinterested in my views, but because all David Cameron has modelled throughout the last 4 years has shown that deep down, he believes in doing what he wants, not what we his electors care for. Why does he presume that the Scottish electors will listen to us (or him), any more than he has been listening to us. He does not really believe in giving people a choice, the only exception to this is in the offer of a referendum on Europe, and that of course is not because we want a choice, but because he wants to satisfy his deeply Eurosceptic friends. As recently as last month David Cameron and his mostly male clique were directing coalition MPs to vote for a Bill which is universally despised, has he forgotten how deaf he and his colleagues were to our requests to modify the legislation. The Lobbying Bill is deeply unpopular, but has been passed as a consolation prize by the man who intended to reorganise constituencies to improve the chances of a Conservative win in 2015. Having failed on that matter, the gagging bill will at least reduce opposition from charities and other organisations during the election campaign, and also tie the hands of the Trade Unions. On reflection perhaps Dave is not forgetful after all. He fully intended to gag the Big Society he used to boast about, because he knows that he needs every vote next year. However some of us won’t forget either!
