The company which manufacturers Fox’s Biscuits and Goodfella’s Pizza is to install bio-refineries installed at each of its 43 UK factories according to this report. This has the potential to reduce CO2 by approximately 35,000 tonnes per year as a result of the roll-out. The company concerned is 2 Sisters Food Group and they are to be applauded for their £50m investments into equipment provided by with energy-from-waste company H2 Energy. However it is crucial that they do not put any edible food into their bio-refineries, no matter how economically viable that might be. All of us have a responsibility to ensure that we do not waste food, and in a nation where so many hungry people live, the decision to invest in this new technology needs to be accompanied  an parallel commitment to work with charity FareShare to ensure that the edible food is redistributed in the most effective manner. Its simple. If they are not already talking together, there is not a moment to lose.
