David Cameron and Ed Miliband have both claimed that our next Prime Minister will be chosen from a short list of 2 and theirs are the only names on this list. For months these two men and several other party leaders have been involved in detailed negotiations with national broadcasters regarding a series of election broadcasts. Yesterday their work and our pain came to an end as these two men and their colleagues, people who should have been humiliated by the appalling delay and failure to agree sooner, emerged blinking into the sunlight and announced what they consider to be a success. In less than 50 days one of these men is assumed to be the leader of the party with the greatest number of MPs in our nation. In that circumstance they may be asked by the Queen to form a Government and their decision making may be needed to decide on life changing issues within hours. Meanwhile all of us will know how long it has taken them to agree to 3 TV debates. It doesn’t inspire confidence does it! Perhaps they have both reached the peak of their careers and its time for both men to step down and hand over their roles to people who can make such decisions without such a long delay?
