This week all sorts of large posters have begun to spring up in the Sussex countryside, in most cases the land and structures being pressed into service to display their messages of promise have been privately owned. However the sign shown in this photograph and an identical one on the opposite side of the road junction have both been attached to publicly erected road signs. A mile or so from this site, some other signs displaying the face and name of the Wealden Tory candidate were erected on the verge of a roundabout near Uckfield.  Thankfully the signs concerned which I first spotted on Monday morning had been removed by Tuesday evening but their installation shows how willing some of our dominant political parties are to impose their ideas and values onto our public spaces. I am glad the signs have been removed but the party needs to understand that this sort of activity sends out the message that they don’t really care about how public spaces and national parks are cared for. One could hope that the Parties will apologise for these mistakes?
