A day out in Belgium

Last week I travelled on the Chunnel to France and then onto Belgium. With two work colleagues we visited a small town called Izegem to sign a deal with a local Company and I can report that as a result, we are now one of only two UK distributors for a software educational package called AvidanetLive which allows Schools and Universities to recreate the language lab experience in a manner which is much easier for the teachers and the students than when I was at School. The same software can be used for teaching of keyboards and a number of other subjects. However back to the blog. We happened to be 85 miles away from Waterloo on the 200th Anniversary but the day passed without incident. We also spent the two journeys on the look out for the supposed flood of immigrants. I can report that on the way out of the UK we spotted one person who was walking along a motorway towards the tunnel about 15 miles away, and on the way back spotted 3 people around 20 miles out. Otherwise we did not spot anyone. I am not wanting to dispute the news reports of yesterday, but simply that on a normal day when the French are not striking, there was no evidence of any of the issues that our news reports appear to be obsessed with.

AND YET! On EVERY British High Street….the sound of foreign chit chat fills the air and foreign faces fill the streets. THIS is indisputable.

  I bow to your expertise and ears and eyes on EVERY British High Street Bob. Clearly we don’t need M15! However firstly I am not sure what you really mean by foreign faces – presumably even with your training you can’t tell the difference between a Lithuanian and a Geordie simply based on bone structures? In any event my blog was trying to offer an alternative perspective to what is happening in Calais at the moment which has nothing to do with the High Streets of the UK. Finally as you would know from your analysis of the UK that some parts of our nations would welcome immigration.
