Watching this mornings Marr, it was understandable that their time was taken up discussing terrorism in the context of the attacks in Tunisia. However terror is caused by all sorts of actions, not all of which involve guns or bombs. One form of terror that was not discussed was that created in the lives of young men and women by people in powerful positions who have raped and abused them. The interview was held 255 days since Ms May agreed (after a great deal of pressure from many directions including Tom Watson MP and Simon Danczuk MP) to hold an overriding inquiry into child sexual exploitation including the exploitation that has involved MPs, Lords, Judges, senior Police Officers and senior military personnel. It was recently reported by Lowell Goddard the Chair of the inquiry that the spending from July 2014 to March 2015 on the inquiry was £1.26M of which a mere £15,000 had been spent on providing expenses to victims who had attended early discussions in preparation for the inquiry proper. Judge Goddard was not even appointed until early February at which point most of the work that had gone on before was jettisoned so one can only imagine that most of this cost represents a waste of public money and failure to do as Ms May promised in July 2014. Since February a new panel has been selected and a reference group involving victims is currently being chosen. What a shame that Mr Marr chose not to raise this matter with Ms May, how long will we have to wait for the inquiry to actually start?
