It is vital that one of the most powerful, wealthiest nations in the world makes provision for a few thousand children who have escaped war torn lands and experienced more pain and trauma in a few years than most of us will experience in our whole lives. The same ‘brave’ politicians that voted to drop bombs in order to bring freedom to others, must also be willing to make bold decisions when it comes to those whose freedom has led them to escaping the bombs and other atrocities. There appears to be confusion regarding what the Government intends to do after announcements made overnight. This is after months of pleading by charities. It is embarrassing that such pleas have until today, fallen on deaf ears and hard hearts. There can be no excuse for mealy mouthed responses from a Cabinet made up of men with numerous spare homes and taxpayer funded comfort and security. If we can house Millionaires at taxpayer expense, in some cases only yards from homes they rent out to others, we can surely find the funds to accommodate children fleeing war. This must not be a modest, measured response, we need the same sort of enthusiasm for welcoming these vulnerable people as was used in the arguments to drop the bombs on Syria. Measure for Measure.
