The horrors of war

sommeAs our nation and our European neighbours, Germany, France and of course Belgium reflect on an event that began 100 years ago, my own thoughts are with those who lost their lives as a result of turning from the battle and were shot by their own side, and those whose lives were mentally scarred as a result of the experience. Every explosion felt or seen has a physiological impact on those in the vicinity. Every bullet fired has the potential to impact the person holding the gun as well as those who are on the receiving end. Making sense of war is a futile gesture. We must end war and warfare, including the wars that our servicemen and women are fighting today. We must redouble our attempts to bring peace into all of the places where it is lacking.
