Many of us will reflect on the Holocaust today and several other forms of ethnic cleansing that are recognised as genocide. The theme this year of “How can life go on?” demands that all forms of ethnic and racial prejudice along with all other areas of discrimination are addressed. There is clear need for all Governments to ensure their policies are not leading to the destruction or disadvantage of people, and for the United Nations to be reformed so that it can begin to speak out and be listened to. The deaths in Syria and Yemen to name two places currently being impacted by unjust Governments including Britain, USA, Russia, Saudi Arabia may not count as a genocides, but each life is precious. The many failures by the UN Security Council to defend such innocent lives on the basis of a veto at the Council by governments which are themselves perpetrators and are willing to play politics with peoples lives must be ended. We need a change to the way in which our world operates, and we need it to begin today for the sake of the Millions of people currently without a permanent home, and currently being denied entry to places such as Britain and USA.
