The vital role that Pride plays in our annual calendar and the size of the crowds it attracts means that inevitably some who attend or some of the people running premises on one of the busiest weekends of the year will demonstrate an attitude that we would all wish to challenge. Sadly for a woman called Jenny and her 20 year old daughter Charlie last year during the Pride weekend, Charlie’s disability led to her being thrown out of a pub where they had gone for a quiet drink. As sad as this was for Jenny and Charlie it is even sadder for us as a city that prides itself on being open to all people irrespective of their circumstances needs and identity, not just one day each year, but on every day of the year. Jenny is now working with other people to organise a Disability Pride event on 9^th July in New Road which means it will coordinate with Disability Pride taking place in New York. A meeting to discuss the event and to give a chance for people to participate before the day, is taking place at Brighthelm tomorrow (Saturday) at 1.30pm. Jenny would welcome as many people as possible to work with her on this exciting project as possible.
