Across the nation many of the Tory candidates used the phrase “Standing with Theresa May” as part of their election material. This image is one that I pass every day on my way into work. Every time I passed it, it raised the question that if people are standing with someone, then if the person falls do they fall together? When I left work yesterday believing that I would next see it when the Tories would have an increased majority, nevertheless I did wonder what would happen if Theresa May fell and the Tories failed. There is no question regarding Nus Ghani and her support which increased by 4%, primarily as a result of the collapse of support for UKIP. However it is clear that Theresa May is unlikely to survive past the Party Conference and she certainly will fall well before March 2019 when the Article 50 negotiations are due to be completed. So my big question is what will happen when Theresa May does fall, what impact will it have on MPs like Nus Ghani. Let us hope that she and the party as a whole will consign such election slogans to the dustbin just as the posters themselves are recycled!
