On Wednesday afternoon in Parliament Emily Thornberry and Damien Green had an exchange about the EU deal that would be accepted. It was an amusing exchange and it initially showed up the Government for their bankrupt position on Brexit. That if they are willing to accept no deal as a worst case scenario, what is that they want as the best case scenario. However into this vacuous environment came the challenge from Damien Green, that if Labour have agreed they will definitely sign up to whatever deal is offered, that they are in effect signing a blank cheque. I am of course paraphrasing, but the point is that today we are 623 days away from leaving the EU. That still seems like a long time away, but it represents about 20 months. If we were due to hold a big event in 20 months time and had not booked the venue or even the caterers we would be leaving things a bit late. This is the most significant event in our nations history, for decades and both sides are still point their fingers and asking questions. We need some clarity and we need it now!
