Keep campaigners away from Grayling

downloadA recent exchange took place in the House of Commons focused on the need to improve the rail service that currently begins in Uckfield and ends in the London area. On 13th July Nusrat Ghani, MP for Wealden asked Chris Grayling: “The Gibb report put forward a solid business case for the electrification of the Uckfield line, which runs through my constituency of Wealden. Will the Secretary of State meet me and local campaigners to get this project on track?” Mr Grayling answered the question in a careful and deliberate way. “I am very happy to meet my hon. Friend, and I absolutely recognise the issue. The other part of deliberations around the Uckfield line is the private-sector proposal, which I have said we will happily look at, to create BML2—the Brighton main line 2. We should look at all these things in the round and ask what is the best future for that route, but I am very happy to meet my hon. Friend.” It is not hard to read between those lines. Mr Grayling is open and accountable to people like his Friend Nus, but please ensure that campaigners are kept well away from him and his Department. After all the running of the Department for Transport is too important for the great unwashed of society to be seen or worse still heard, unless of course they are private-sector investors willing to build BML2 and for them like Nus, his door will always be open!
