The decision by the new head of Ofsted to absorb this years Social Care annual report into Ofsteds own annual report comes at a bad time in the light of the recent prosecutions in the Newcastle Upon Tyne, sex grooming case. We need to have a way of understanding how deep and toxic such cases place our national protection of vulnerable children and adults. Each local area is impacted by local issues and individuals whose actions are probably not linked in any way to other localities, and yet a national perspective from an objective agency like Ofsted is vital if we are going to get a real handle on such issues. The national social care report was only instigated in 2013 and so whilst it is always important to review the way in which agencies such as Ofsted work, dropping something after only 3 or 4 attempts is a bad move. We need to amass as many resources as we can to try to resolve why the journey from Rochdale to Newcastle has taken us to so many locations.
