Nash leaves and Agnew arrives

dfeThe departure of Lord Nash from the Department for Education as Academies Minister and his replacement of soon to be Sir, Theodore Agnew will ensure that the Department once again benefits from wealthy businessmen who have turned some of their attention to create Academies. Bearing in mind that the Government is in favour of promoting these schools it is perhaps of little surprise that the Ministry has been consistently manned by people with hands on experience. Inevitably these men are supporters of the Government too, even though their connection is far more tenuous than the rest of their Ministerial colleagues. It is easy to be critical of the Government on many fronts, however perhaps rather than getting frustrated that they have constantly given these posts to men with a vested interest in the success of their posts, perhaps instead the concern could be that the Government appoints men and women from the House of Commons to posts that they do not really understand. Surely there are people in the Conservative Party with more Health experience than Jeremy Hunt, and more educational experience than Justine Greening. If they continue to ensure that the Academies Ministers are people who know the business, perhaps it is time to spread that approach to the rest of the Department and other Departments too!
