It is time for a statement, Cllr

mearsMy blog back on 24th September raised a suggestion that Brighton & Hove Council publish a statement regarding the apparent overspend of £300,000 by one of the sub-contractors employed by Mears.  The Council Audit and Standards Committee was due to examine this claimed overspend on 19th September with the help of a report that was being prepared for the committee, but unfortunately the report had taken longer than expected to be completed. It was then announced that the report would not be ready until the end of September and as the next meeting of the ASC is in January there would be a 4 month delay in the examination of the issue. I did get some correspondence from Joe Miller who is Chair of the ASC suggesting he would discuss my suggestion of a statement with officers in the Council. It is now nearly two weeks since my blog and by now the report should be completed. I am writing again in the hope that it gives Joe and the Officers the encouragment to prepare a report so that the taxpayers can see what has happened regarding this situation.
