A report we can all act upon

MPs must cooperateA few days ago a report was published by the Committee on Standards in Public Life which is entitled ‘Intimidation in Public Life’ primarily focused on the the way in which politicians have been attacked, and have attacked others using social media as part of the 2017 General Election. The text at the top of this image is one of the 33 recommendations in the report designed to protect MPs and Political Candidates. Having been a political candidate myself I fully agree that candidates need protecting, but I also believe that MPs and their colleagues in the House of Lords need to cooperate with the Police in order to protect their constituents and indeed anyone in society. The three tweets featured above show classic examples of how poorly certain MPs handle their own cyber security. The failure to treat their personal computer accounts with any degree of confidence means that along with the possibility of members of staff watching pornography on their computers as Nadine Dorries is claiming, that when their offices send out hate mail or make social media attacks, that it will be impossible to accurately identify the culprit. It is for this reason that last week I published my own response to this behaviour, in response to these tweets, calling on the Parliamentary Authorities to audit every office in the Palace of Westminster and perhaps also the constituency offices to ensure that proper cyber-security is in place in the workplaces of our MPs and Lords. Please consider signing this petition so that MPs like Nadine Dorries and Nick Boles are forced to bring their offices into order (in the same way as many of us do on a daily basis).
