Sussex needs to become more bike friendly

Sussex Pad CrossingThis campaign partly organised by Chris who is a friend of mine is a classic case of the planning and transport departments needing to understand what the future will be like for many people. To destroy a crossing of the A27 in the Sussex Pad area for walkers, horse riders and cyclists is deeply concerning given that many of us would cycle more regularly if there was a safe route to use. I am aware that some cyclists refuse to use cycle routes and I confess I don’t understand why. In my case I work in Uckfield and live in Brighton. I can cycle to Lewes without any problems but then trying to cycle to Uckfield is a major challenge due to the roads and traffic. Although my own experience of cycling in the Shoreham area has been on the Downslink Route, it is clear that this does not resolve matters for people needing to cross the A27 directly. It seems vital that MPs such as Tim Loughton should get behind this campaign along with the Adur and West Sussex Councillors in the Shoreham area.
