On Wednesday in Parliament there was a debate taking place called “Tackling Loneliness and Connecting Communities” and there were several MPs who took part and one of them was Beth Winter who is the Labour MP for Cynon Valley in South East Wales. She made a statement and at the end of her words she included the following text.
Loneliness is also prevalent here in Parliament. I commend Caroline Lucas not only for her outstanding work as a parliamentarian—in particular, on the climate crisis—but for her honesty for saying in a recent interview:
“It’s lonely within parliament, yes, definitely.”
Much more needs to be done within this bubble, as I call it, to acknowledge and tackle loneliness and isolation.
