A Petition to call for daily sessions in schools

A very nice person called Katie Scott who is based in the Liverpool area of Knowsley has submitted her e-Petition to the Government. It is referred as Petition 641406 which focuses on daily sessions in Schools. It was published on 25th July so it is nearly 3 weeks ago. At the moment there are only about 100 signatures and so far only 6 of them are from areas beyond the region around the Knowsley area which is in Liverpool where I was born and grew up in. It will be very interesting to discover if the petition will reach 10,000 or even 100,000 signatures within the next five months and if so it will then be responded by the Government and potentially discussed in Parliament by the MPs. Given it has more than 20 signatures in the Knowsley area, if all locations took a similar number there would be more than 10,000 in the Nation and indeed if all settings achieved about 160 signatures it will reach the 100,000 across the UK!

The petition text is entitled below and it can be obtained from here if you would be willing to sign it.

Require daily sessions on mindfulness/meditation in schools

To require schools to have daily sessions on mindfulness/meditation. This should include teaching children ways to reduce anxiety, self-love, boundaries, meditation, self-regulation, confidence building, and positive relationships. I believe this would help them learn more effectively.

I have been teaching these life-long skills in schools for 6 years and now train teachers in mindfulness/meditation. Over the 6 years I have seen a rise in children’s mental health issues.

I believe that children should be given time throughout each day to practice activities that help with their emotional development. If this was required in all schools I believe it would help children learn more effectively, and support them dealing with issues later on in life.
