An interesting Petition to remove Church from the State

A few days ago I spotted the petition which Ruby Henderson submitted into the Government agency for the e-petitions. So far she has obtained 21 signatures and the largest group of them is from Newcastle-under-Lyme which suggests that Ruby is based in that location. So here is the text and the Petition which is 640469 can be obtained from here if anyone would like to sign it.

Make the church and state completely independent of each other

We want the Government to recognise the declining percentages of people who are religious across the UK, and completely break the links between church and state. This should include the priority given to Christianity in schools, and the placement of Bishops in the House of Lords.

A BBC article (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-43485581) stated that a research study was done across Europe, and it found that, in 2018, about 70% of British people between the ages of 16 and 29 are not religious. This could be even higher now, due to the general decline of religion across the UK.

Given the increasing proportion of people in the UK who are not religious, we want the Government to repeal all legislation that gives Christianity priority in the UK.
