Significant requests for us to Call a General Election

At the beginning of August an e-Petition was published which is entitled Call an immediate general election which was provided by David Nash. I had spotted it had 41 signatures on Wednesday 16th August and it had nearly achieved 50 signatures by Friday morning. However at lunchtime more than 90 signatures were obtained, which included 70 from Llanelli and about 15 near by and by the evening there were more than 170 signatures with 99 in Llanelli so far. By another two weeks the petition had achieved 350+ signatures and here in Sussex we had 6 signs. Then in the first week of September the number raised significantly and so on the morning of 6th September it had reached 715 signatures although there were 4 Sussex locations that had not received any signatures but our total was 21 for Sussex. Then just over 2 weeks later which is on the evening of Friday 22nd of September the petition had raised 3,725 signatures and by the following Tuesday 26th afternoon it had achieved 4,525 currently. That had only 4 Scotland, 5 Irish, 2 Welsh and 3 English locations that had not signed and the whole of Sussex endorsed it some time previously. It will be interesting to see what it will achieve shortly.

Interestingly on the week of 2nd October the contribution remained at about 5,000 signatures initially but on the 4th October I spotted that the e-petition has raised to over 11,000 and indeed it will shortly reach 12,000 signatures that evening. Then on the evening of 6th October it had reached more than 157,000 signatures. A couple of weeks later it added another 100,000 signatures and as it ends October it will pass 270,000 signatures. There are now almost 1,300 signatures in Brighton Pavilion which is nearly three times as the significant of Llanelli which has reached 470 and indeed there are more than 3,000 for the Brighton and Hove area. It will be interesting to see how many more signatures it will achieve.

The Petition 641904 can be obtained from here and the text is below, however interesting there are several other e-Petitions which took place in the last year on very similar themes.

One began on July last year which was entitled Change the law so that UK citizens can call a General election that was submitted by David Simpson and the 618068 unit achieved 1,232 signatures. On 30th January this year one was entitled Call a General Election which was published by Shaun Bacon. It was 631901 and it obtained 2,125 signatures by the end of its time. There was another which published on 5th September last year as 621931 with the headline Hold a General Election within 100 days of the new PM being appointed which was published by Simon Matthew Dodd and it achieved 22,064 signatures by early March this year. Another on last July was submitted by Darrin Charlesworth who created Call an immediate general election to end the chaos of the current government and the 619781 item reached a massive 906,623 signatures which was very significant.

It will be very interesting to see how many people will sign this recent petition, given that it is due to be completed by the beginning of next February and indeed many of us would like the election to take place long before December 2024 which is when the system will need to be replaced.

Call an immediate general election

The Prime Minister should call an immediate general election to allow the British public to have their say on how we are governed, we should not be made to wait until January 2025. Consistent opinion polling has shown the British public have lost confidence in the current government. The NHS is in crisis, the asylum system is broken, there are delays at the ports, and institutions are failing. The British people should be given a say on what to do next.

Im not signing or sharing. We need government to govern and not be at the whim of knee jerk reactionists.
