At a time of year when our household waste is at a peak, it is fascinating to read of this innovation being installed in London Streets. The bin which compacts rubbish so that it can contain more rubbish than other bins of a similar size, uses smartphone technology to alert the refuse teams to empty it as it reaches capacity. The article does not reveal any information about the cost of these bins, but assuming these bins are effective in London. it would be great if the the City Council here in Brighton & Hove to explore the same technology. I recently visited the recycling bins in Preston Park and found that they were overflowing with waste cardboard and paper. It would also be really helpful for this sort of technology to be used to ensure that communal bins in blocks of flats are monitored so that they can also be emptied as they become full.
