I found last nights documentary by Nick Robinson for the BBC on the EU really helpful as it delved into issues and events that were taking place, just as I was taking my first steps. I found the piece very balanced and it helped me to understand the challenges facing the people and the Government of the day really useful. My personal learning style favours watching and listening rather that reading and so a well produced documentary is always preferable to the challenge of reading lots of text. The challenge however as we approach 23rd June is to isolate the outrageous noises on both sides of the debate and focus on the facts. Our leaflet from the Government arrived yesterday, and whilst I am in favour of remaining in the EU, I am attempting to have an open mind to the arguments and certainly want my own ideas and prejudices to be tested. I find it disturbing that the leaflet did not offer any balance to the arguments to remain and whatever the outcome in June, this process and campaign has been waged in a way that has not improved the credibility of the Government in my opinion.
