What we need to do to improve society

DVYesterday I wrote a blog about how protecting children and their parents from Domestic Abuse and Domestic Violence will require a major shift in the way in which statutory agencies such as the Police and Local Government departments engage with front line services such as PreSchools and Nursery Classes who are often the first to spot the symptoms of such issues. My blog was provoked by a report published a few days ago by several inspection bodies including Ofsted, The Care Quality Commission, and Her Majesties Inspectorate of Police, Probation and Fire and Rescue. This report is entitled “The multi-agency response to children living with domestic abuse”. The subtitle is “Prevent, protect and repair”. The report calls for a national public service initiative to raise awareness of domestic abuse and violence. Although my blog yesterday was pointing out how this report had missed an obvious aspect that was an extension of some points around education that were the last elements of a report that barely looked at Schools, the fact is that 25 pages of this report do explain that more needs to be done by the Government if we are to begin to reduce the impact of what is referred to as DA/DV by those who rely on acronyms for their work, on our society and on future generations. The report is freely available and easy to read. The challenge is how do we persuade our Parliament to pick this report up and act on it, bringing these issues to the Government before it is too late for the current generation of children who are suffering at the hands of at least one of their carers or parents this morning? The need is for funds and priorities to be allocated to the prevention of such abuse, now!
