According to this question in the House of Commons on Monday, the Government is abusing its power by spending our money on an attempt to win its own, supposedly  publicly accountable consultation, to build a National Holocaust Memorial Centre in the Victoria Gardens. The whole point of public consultations such as planning, just like democracy such as voting is that ordinary people get a chance to respond to choices and their views get considered by the people in power such as Governments. In the light of the corruption identified following the EU referendum of wealthy people like Arron Banks spending money on campaigning groups to act as though his views have a lot of widespread support, one would have imagined that the Government would know better. However they have invested nearly £120,000 of our money to spend through a social enterprise called Big Ideas to help generate responses that will favour the Governments own ideas. This is deeply concerning and Peter Bottomley is acting very appropriately to bring this up in Parliament. It seems vital that the Government response to his question is also made public and that such corrupt behaviour is ended with the sacking of the Minister responsible for this and possibly a Court case or some form of public enquiry directed at him or her to corrupt the civil service who will have facilitated this.
