There is a strong case for blocking Johnson’s action

Many of us would like to have a very high quality House of Lords within our Government arrangement. However we would also like them to be not restricted to Party Political membership or be their funding individuals. There appears to be a large number of credible Independent Lords along with a lower proportion of the party members. Over the last few years there have been a number of calls for the House of Lords to be limited to voting and I would certainly agree with that. However I would not want them to be exclusively connected to the party political approach as many of the Independent members of the House of Lords are much stronger than the people who used to be MPs or who failed to get in as an MP. As the call raised by the Guardian in the last few hours, it would be very helpful if we can block Johnson from sending in his mates to the House of Lords. In addition to that we should be able to remove some of the members of the House of Lords who obtained their position because they funded the party political groups. Many thanks for Open Britain Thame and Janey Salisbury for publishing their views on twitter in this theme and the piece in the Guardian that is available here.
