Parliamentary rules suggest that under most settings local people can only expect to hear from their own MP if they want to ask a question. However there are always going to be exceptions and the following is surely one of these. The photos shown here are of the 12 Tory, Sussex MPs who between them prevented the House of Commons from voting to end the franchise of the Govia Thameslink Railway and at the same time preventing Chris Grayling from having a vote of no confidence. They were joined in this support for Chris by Stephen Lloyd who despite being a Liberal Democrat chose to join Nicholas Soames and Tim Loughton who abstained on the vote last Summer. Just as that debate and vote was taking place, the cost of living assessment was being made which means that today Sussex based travellers are facing an average 3.1% increase in their railfare. It seems vital that these 13 or at least 10 of these MPs have the guts to explain to all Susssex residents and workers why they voted to retain the franchise and how they can justify the 3.1% increase in the cost of travelling by train, given the lack of efficiency experienced by the same people!
